Common Dermatological Conditions

Dermatological conditions are often a concern for athletes because they are very contagious until properly treated. Infections can be spread through skin-to-skin contact, as well as through object-to– skin contact. Due to the close contact that athletes have with one another during activity, the sharing of personal items (such as towels and razors), and the sweaty (and therefore warm and moist) environment in which they spend time, dermatological issues can quickly become problematic for a team.

If you notice a skin abnormality that is red, raised, warm, and/or spreading, cover it and seek the advice of your athletic trainer or physician!
